Aberfoyle Short Film Fest

£3.00

Join us for an evening of short films that examine the lives of LGBTQ+ people living in rural parts of the UK. Four short films have been carefully curated by Edinburgh based Queer Film Night’s Jules Lacave-Fountourcy, who will start the evening showing her wonderful film A Different Home.

A Different Home asks what “home” means for queer people who live in a city but grew up in a rural place. Interviews layered on Scottish landscape shots explore the tensions between craving a rural life and thriving in an urban queer community. Interviewees share their sense of belonging to and alienation from both cities and rural spaces. Visually rooted to the land, this documentary reflects on what it means to grieve a space and a home which are still there but do not welcome us as who we are.

Director: Jules Lacave-Fontourcy
Cinematographer and editor: Mitchell Morton
Sound editor: Nicolas Jarnoux

Gareth Where’s Your Handbag is set against the stunning backdrop of the Lake District, we embark on a journey through the heart of Cumbria, illuminating the ever-evolving landscape of queer culture acceptance and perception in the region. Gareth, where’s your handbag navigates the support for queer youth in small communities with contributions from Nova Gina, DropZone Youth and the public. The film brings to life the story behind Nova Gina, the drag persona of Gareth Irwin, who is originally from Larbert.

Director: Millie Johnson
Producer: Joe Stebbens

Directors: Robbie Jones and Elspeth Turner
Writer: Eslpeth Turner

West of the Horizon is based on the remote coast of Connemara, a runaway trans-teenager has a chance encounter with a bereaved, suicidal fisherman that see's the two form an unlikely bond.

Director and Writer: Barra Convery

This event forms part of our Stirling Pride Rural Tour which is funded through the Communities Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund administered by SVE and CTSI.
